LAS VEGAS (AP) — Air Combat Command officials say pilot errors caused two jets to collide on the ground at Nellis Air Force Base in August.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports a statement released by Air Combat Command says the F-16C fighter jets collided partially due to one pilot’s delayed transition to the right side of the runway and the other pilot’s lack of comprehensive braking.
One jet was destroyed at a $64 million loss while the other sustained damage costing $5.4 million.
A pilot who survived life-threatening injuries in the crash was removed from the jet by emergency responders.
The pilots and jets were assigned to the Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base in Texas.
The names of the pilots were not released.
