LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Nellis Air Force Base airman is being held in Las Vegas after he was accused of causing severe head and body injuries to his 3-month-old son.
Records show 31-year-old Andrew Leach remained Saturday at the Clark County jail pending a preliminary hearing Feb. 20 on a child abuse causing substantial bodily harm charge.
The boy was hospitalized Feb. 2.
Police say Leach told investigators the boy fell from his arms while he was preparing a bath, and that he shook the child to try to revive him.
He also told police he’d been treated for mental health issues including post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression and alcohol and drug dependence.
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Leach is a staff sergeant and member of the 99th Logistics Readiness Squadron.
